It is official. The signature of Donald Trump will appear on future American banknotes, announced the Treasury on Thursday, a first for a sitting President of the United States. The first $100 bills with the new signature will be printed in June. It will then be extended to other denominations, as specified in the government statement.
Since 1861, only the signature of the American Secretary of the Treasury was on the green bills. “There is no more powerful way to recognize the historical achievements of our great country and President Donald Trump than by having dollar bills with his name on them,” justified Finance Minister Scott Bessent, quoted in the statement.
This announcement is part of a series of decisions aiming to imprint Donald Trump’s mark on many buildings or symbols of the United States, provoking accusations of personality cult.
The name change of Palm Beach Airport
On March 19, a federal commission of fine arts – all of whose members were appointed by Donald Trump – gave the green light to the minting of a gold commemorative coin bearing the likeness of the President.
Several public buildings have already been renamed in the name of the Republican since his return last year to the White House, such as the Kennedy Center, a renowned cultural institution in Washington. And in Florida, Palm Beach International Airport must also change its name to Donald Trump’s, under the law adopted by the lawmakers of that southeastern state, where his private residence is located.
