President of the United States, Donald Trump, is considering the possibility of deploying up to 10,000 additional soldiers in the Middle East, according to information published on Friday by the Wall Street Journal. This option, currently being examined by the Pentagon, aims to expand Washington’s military responses, while the White House does not exclude discussions with Iran.
According to officials at the Department of Defense, this reinforcement could include infantry units and armored vehicles. It would be in addition to approximately 5,000 marines and elements of the 82nd Airborne Division already mobilized for deployment in the region. While the exact deployment areas are yet to be defined, these forces are expected to be positioned near Iran, including within an operational radius encompassing the Kharg Island, a crucial point for Iranian oil exports.
In this context of heightened tensions, Donald Trump has recently reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the free flow of tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, a major strategic route for global energy trade.
