Since his disappearance, information or testimonies claiming to have found the fugitive in various places have been recurrent, without ever being confirmed. The Nantes prosecutor’s office stated on Thursday that they had not been informed of the dissemination this week of an appeal by a Texan sheriff regarding Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès, wanted since 2011 for a quintuple family murder. The case has sparked numerous fantasies and led to hundreds of reports worldwide.
“Neither the investigating judge handling the case, nor myself, nor the investigators who have been working on it from the beginning, were informed of this call from a Texas police service,” said Nantes Public Prosecutor Antoine Leroy.
Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès “has possibly been seen in 2020”
The Brewster County Sheriff’s Office in Texas posted on its Facebook page an appeal accompanied by several photos of Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès. He “has possibly been seen in 2020” in the county, with “a black labrador,” the sheriff’s office said, inviting anyone who recognizes him or has information about him to contact them.
Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès is suspected of killing his wife and four children in April 2011, whose bodies were found in Nantes under the family home’s terrace. He has never been found, and the investigation has not determined if he was dead or in hiding. In 2024, the Nantes prosecutor’s office stated that over 1750 reports concerning him had been received and investigated, in France and abroad.
