In attacking Iran, the United States “clearly made a mistake” because the “extremely strong” regime of the mullahs “did not fall,” Marine Le Pen estimated on Wednesday, criticizing President Donald Trump’s “erratic war aims.”
“What I see is that the United States clearly made a mistake in that they thought that the Iranian regime would fall within a few days. It did not fall. The Iranian regime is an extremely strong regime,” declared the leader of the National Rally, Marine Le Pen, on France Inter.
Asked about the strategy of the American president, Marine Le Pen displayed her bewilderment: “His war aims are erratic. Besides, does anyone understand what the final objective of this war is? What is Donald Trump trying to achieve? I believe that in reality, no one knows.”
“Very heavy imbalance”
Nearly a month after the start of the conflict, triggered by the United States and Israel, “this war has taken on proportions that were clearly unforeseen, affecting many Gulf countries and obviously causing a very heavy imbalance in energy supplies for the world,” lamented the boss of the RN.
Marine Le Pen also defended her ally Viktor Orban, despite the Hungarian Prime Minister’s ties to Moscow and his veto of a European Union loan of 90 billion euros to Ukraine. “Russia is the energy supplier of Hungary” and “Ukraine is hindering the supply of oil from Russia to Hungary,” she explained, judging that between Budapest and Kiev, “hostility is shared, and perhaps fault is also shared.”
Welcoming Viktor Orban as a “symbol of (the) resistance” to Ursula von der Leyen’s European Commission, Marine Le Pen justified her presence in Budapest on Monday to encourage her ally in the face of three weeks of uncertain legislative elections. “It is perfectly natural for me to support our allies when they are in an election situation,” she asserted, while later assuring that she “does not interfere in Hungarian internal affairs.”
