The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Saturday that the country was in the “finalization phase” of a 14-point agreement with the United States to permanently end the war, while emphasizing that differences remain.

The spokesperson mentioned that the agreement includes addressing the issue of piracy committed by the United States against international navigation, referring to the naval blockade announced by Washington on April 12. This comes as the Islamic Republic had effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz since the beginning of the war, a strategic route through which a fifth of the world’s consumed hydrocarbons used to transit.

Iranian officials are currently working on finalizing the agreement composed of 14 clauses, according to statements made on state television. The spokesperson also highlighted that despite weeks of bilateral talks, not all contentious issues have been resolved.

In terms of reaching a mutual agreement with the United States on key issues, the spokesperson stressed the importance of finding a mutually acceptable solution rather than achieving complete consensus.

The proposed agreement aims to end the war, American aggression, and what they refer to as the naval blockade. One of the main points to be addressed is the freezing of Iranian assets.
