A federal judge in Massachusetts suspended changes to the US vaccine policy made by the Trump administration. The judge stated that the government disregarded science-based methods, which are necessary to justify changes in vaccine recommendations and schedules.
This decision comes after the Secretary of Health, Robert Kennedy Jr, a vaccine skeptic, initiated a review of vaccines in November 2025. He modified the childhood vaccination schedule by removing recommendations for six vaccines, including flu, hepatitis A and B, meningococcal, respiratory syncytial virus, and rotavirus.
Robert Kennedy Jr, who lacks a scientific background, has been known for spreading conspiracy theories about Covid-19 vaccines and cutting financial aid for new vaccine development. These actions have been criticized by the medical and scientific community.
The president of the American Academy of Pediatrics praised the judge’s decision as historic and necessary, highlighting that the Trump administration’s decisions were unfounded and unscientific. The ruling suspends the activities of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), whose expertise has been widely questioned, and was set to hold a meeting this week.
The Trump administration is likely to appeal this decision, as a spokesperson for the US Health Ministry expressed eagerness for the judge’s ruling to be overturned.
