In the United States, a 12-year-old teen girl collapsed after a fight near a school bus stop in Villa Rica, Georgia, on Thursday, March 6th. According to ABC News, young Jada West, a sixth-grade student at Mason Creek Middle School, collapsed shortly after the altercation with another student.
Emergency services were called for a minor found in cardiac arrest on the street before being transported to the hospital. Emergency teams tried to revive the victim on-site before transferring her to the hospital. She was eventually pronounced dead on Sunday, March 9th, several days after the altercation.
A cell phone video as evidence
Local police have opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy. Investigators are examining a video filmed by a cell phone showing the two teenage girls arguing before exchanging blows. After a brief fight, they fall to the ground and then get up before an adult intervenes to end the confrontation.
Police are now awaiting the results of the autopsy and will meet with prosecutors to decide on any potential charges. According to ABC News, the school district clarified that the incident occurred off-campus and outside of school hours, while stating that counselors have been mobilized to support students and staff.
