In front of astonished Americans in Michigan (United States), the tornado grew larger and larger on Friday, March 6. In a deafening noise, it lifted everything in its path and left no chance for buildings in its trajectory. Caught in a whirlwind of debris, Americans took refuge in a store, waiting for the tornado to pass.
In the streets, the count of devastated houses is countless. Everywhere there are tangles of furniture, uprooted trees, and overturned cars. “We had barely gotten to the basement when my whole house fell apart,” a resident testifies. “We took refuge with the children in the bathroom. We started singing, playing games, and praying to God. There was so much noise, like our ears were going to explode,” recounts a mother.
Cleanup operations have begun, but they will take time. Everyone tries to comfort their neighbor. “It’s heartbreaking to see your home, for which you worked so hard, in this state, but we will get through it,” assures a woman.
1500 kilometers further south in the United States, in Oklahoma, the same phenomenon occurred, causing extensive damage. “I came out of my room, it was a tornado, the house was shaking, I was scared,” remembers a teenager. In one neighborhood, for example, only the walls of the buildings remained standing. Everything else was blown away, pulverized by the power of the tornadoes that caused eight deaths and dozens of injuries in the United States.
