In addition to a meeting with several South American leaders on Saturday, March 7, Donald Trump stated that Cuba is “living its last moments.” Following his intervention in Venezuela and Iran, the President of the United States declared that Cuba would be his next priority.

Donald Trump does not seem to be done with his international interventionism. After the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in Caracas on January 3, the President of the United States launched an operation called “Operation Furious Pike,” jointly with his ally Israel, aimed at eliminating the supreme Iranian leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. During strikes on Tehran, the capital of Iran, on Saturday, February 28, he succeeded in his objective, triggering a response from the regime.

For the past week, the situation in the Middle East has been explosive. American bases in the Gulf monarchies have been targeted by the Revolutionary Guards, who have also blocked the strategic strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of the world’s oil consumption passes. The conflict has also spread to Lebanon. Following rocket fire from Hezbollah, Israel heavily bombed the south of the country and the southern suburbs of Beirut.

“Un grand changement” (A big change)

Nevertheless, Donald Trump has his eyes set on Cuba. During a summit called “Shield of the Americas,” the American head of state received several of his allies in South America at one of his properties in Florida on Saturday, March 7, including Argentine President Javier Milei, Ecuadorian leader Daniel Noboa, and Nayib Bukele, the President of El Salvador. According to several sources, including France Info, he stated that Cuba was “living its last moments” and promised a “big change,” implying that the current regime would fall imminently. “I will take care of the matter,” he further stated.

“Régler le cas de Cuba” (Settle the case of Cuba)

In an interview with a CNN correspondent, he assured that his Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, was currently “occupied” by the situation in the Middle East, but that “the next step will be to settle the case of Cuba.” According to Donald Trump, who plans to send the American official to the scene, an agreement could be reached, without specifying the details. He added, “We are really focused on this issue right now. We have all the time, but Cuba is ready after 50 years.” These statements have not yet been commented on by Cuban leaders.
