After the failure of negotiations between Tehran and Washington to Islamabad, Donald Trump displayed his disregard for the resumption of talks with Iran in front of journalists. President Donald Trump declared on Sunday, April 12, that he didn’t care whether Iran came back to the negotiating table with the United States after the talks in Islamabad failed.

“I don’t care if they come back or not. If they don’t come back, that’s fine with me,” Donald Trump said to reporters at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington, upon his return from a weekend in Florida.

Direct marathon negotiations in Islamabad between the United States and Iran failed on Sunday, raising doubts about the two-week ceasefire, mediated by Pakistan, and whether it will hold.

The nuclear question

Although JD Vance highlighted the nuclear issue in the failed discussions, it was not explicitly mentioned during the press conference in the Strait of Hormuz. The strategic passage for global oil supplies in the Gulf has been blocked by Iran since the conflict began, causing ripple effects on the global economy with shortages and price hikes.

The spokesman for the Iranian diplomacy discussed the complexity of the problems and conditions surrounding the negotiations.

After the talks failed, Donald Trump announced an American blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, accusing Iran of refusing to give up its nuclear ambitions.

While he assured that the discussions in Islamabad, lasting over 20 hours, had gone “well” and most points had been agreed upon, the President of the United States reiterated his readiness to strike Iranian energy infrastructures, citing Tehran’s refusal to compromise on the nuclear issue.

The United States justified the offensive launched with Israel on February 28 by accusing Iran of seeking nuclear weapons, a claim Tehran denies, triggering a war that has caused thousands of deaths, particularly in Iran and Lebanon, and disrupted the global economy.
