“I could, I’m considering it.” Kamala Harris, former vice president of the United States and unsuccessful candidate for the White House against Donald Trump in 2024, said on Friday, April 10 that she is considering running again in the 2028 presidential election.

“Will you run again in 2028?”, asked her reverend Al Sharpton, a figure in the civil rights movement, at a forum of his organization National Action Network in New York. “Listen, I could,” replied the Democrat on stage, to the applause of the audience.

The first woman and first Black person to reach the vice presidency in U.S. history, Kamala Harris has been vague about her political future since her defeat in 2024. The former California senator, now without any elected office, has been traveling the United States since last year to talk about her book “107 Days,” spanning the duration of her hastily launched campaign after Joe Biden’s withdrawal on July 21, 2024 – in which she notably settles scores with the former Democratic president and his circle.

With nearly two years before the first primaries for the Democratic nomination, some figures are starting to emerge on the left. Among them, the current governor of California, Gavin Newsom, does not hide his presidential ambitions, as well as Pete Buttigieg, former Transportation Secretary under Biden and a candidate in 2020. New York City Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a figure on the American left, could also join the race, as well as former astronaut and current Arizona Senator Mark Kelly.
