YouTube increased the price of its subscriptions in the United States on Friday, with increases of up to $4 that will take effect from the next billing cycle.

The video platform owned by Alphabet GOOGL.O indicated that the standard individual subscription to YouTube Premium will now cost $15.99 per month, up from $13.99, while the family subscription price will increase by $4 to reach $26.99 per month.

YouTube Lite, a less expensive option that allows viewing most videos without ads but excludes YouTube Music Premium and includes ads on short films and music content, will now cost $8.99 per month. The standalone subscription to YouTube Music Premium has also been raised by one dollar and now costs $11.99 per month.

The price changes mark the first increase in YouTube’s prices in the United States in three years and come several years after the launch of YouTube Premium, which debuted in 2018 as a renamed version of YouTube Red, first introduced in 2015.

These measures follow a broader wave of price increases on streaming platforms, with Spotify having raised subscription prices in the United States earlier this year and Netflix, Disney+, and others also raising fees as companies seek to offset higher content and operating costs.

“This change allows us to retain the most valued features by our members: ad-free viewing, background play, and a massive library of over 300 million titles on YouTube Music,” a YouTube spokesperson said.

YouTube stated last year that its combined YouTube Music and Premium services had surpassed 125 million subscribers worldwide, up from 100 million in 2024.
