In an interview with Agence France Presse, American President Donald Trump mentioned the role played by China in the negotiations for the 14-day ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States.

Who are the stakeholders in the temporary ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States? Shortly after the announcement of this halt to hostilities for 14 days, just hours before the expiration of the ultimatum issued by Donald Trump, Washington thanked Pakistan for its role as a mediator. However, another country may have played a decisive role: China.

At least that’s what Donald Trump claimed on Wednesday, April 8, in an interview with Agence France Presse. President Trump stated that he believed China, Iran’s historical ally, had helped bring the Islamic Republic to the negotiating table to reach a two-week ceasefire agreement.

Beyond these statements by the American president, the role played by Beijing remains unclear. At this time, the country has not commented on the agreement between the two nations.

“The China has interests in the region, it has certainly provided military intelligence to Iran (…) it wants to be a partner in the region and has close relations with Pakistan,” General Jérôme Pellistrandi explained on BFMTV after these statements.

“In a total and complete victory, 100%”

In this interview with the French news agency, the American president also claimed “a total and complete victory, 100%” for the United States, after several weeks of war.

However, the conflict is far from over at this stage. This temporary agreement paves the way for a period of negotiation based on a 10-point plan presented to the United States by the Iranian regime. These negotiations could take place as early as this Friday in Islamabad, Pakistan, at the invitation of the local Prime Minister.

“Discussions are underway regarding in-person talks but nothing is final until the president or the White House announces it,” said Karoline Leavitt, spokesperson for the Trump administration.
