Bad news for RTBF’s legendary consultant Philippe Albert: the former Red Devil will not be able to travel to the United States for the World Cup. This was announced by the public service on Tuesday afternoon.
“I have recently had several health issues,” explained Philippe Albert to our colleagues. “Three weeks ago, I had to be hospitalized for ten days due to heart problems. Based on the initial tests, specialists advised me against traveling to the United States. I had to listen to them and I gave up on this trip.“
An operation at the end of April for Philippe Albert
Nevertheless, the former Newcastle player reassures: “Next, there is an operation planned for the end of April, followed by a short period of complete rest. Until the operation and from mid-May, I will be able to work without any worries in Belgium.” It remains to be seen in what role Philippe Albert will be seen during the World Cup. The RTBF does not specify if another consultant will travel to the United States to commentate on the Red Devils alongside Benjamin Deceuninck and Vincent Langendries.
The former Red Devil will, in any case, be live to commentate on the Europa League match between Braga and Betis this Thursday evening alongside Benjamin Deceuninck. A match that the duo will follow from Brussels.
