But the cashier made a mistake and gave him a $10 ticket ($8.60).
Instead of pointing out the mistake to the employee, the man decided to keep it and slipped it into his pocket. That evening, he tried his luck and scratched it. “To his great surprise, he found that he had all the right numbers. When he announced it to his wife, she didn’t believe him. Even after noticing the congratulations message on the ticket, they remained astonished,” said the Ohio Lottery in an official statement.
The player showed great luck. Thanks to the $10 ticket, he won the jackpot. This would not have been the case with the others. “If he had bought the $1 and $5 tickets as planned, he would have only won 10% or 50% of the jackpot, respectively,” explained the lottery. After deducting state and federal taxes, he will receive $116,163.51.
