As a preview of Donald Trump’s threats, a nuclear power plant was targeted. The United States hit the site of the Bushehr plant, the only operational civilian nuclear facility in Iran. While no damage was reported on the plant itself, this is the fourth time it has been targeted by bombings since the start of the war.

The International Atomic Energy Agency has voiced its concerns. “Nuclear power plant sites or surrounding areas should never be attacked. The auxiliary buildings of the site may contain vital security equipment,” it emphasized on Saturday, April 4.

Russia also condemns these strikes. It had participated in the construction of the plant and had to evacuate its 198 employees on site, mainly technicians responsible for its operation. “The main wave of Rosatom employees’ evacuation from Iran began today as planned. Unfortunately, the likelihood of damage or a potential nuclear incident is increasing day by day, as this morning’s events have shown,” said Alexey Likhachev, director of the Russian nuclear agency Rosatom.

Parallel to this, other infrastructures were bombed, such as a petrochemical plant in the southwest of the country. The capital, Tehran, was also targeted. Public facilities like a hospital were affected as well.
