The chocolate manufactured in California has been recalled for unusual reasons. Several products from the company Gear Isle contained undisclosed medicinal ingredients, including those found in Viagra.
The Food and Drug Administration discovered sildenafil and tadalafil, used to treat erectile dysfunction, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
According to the FDA, these ingredients can interact with nitrates present in some prescription medications. This interaction can cause a significant drop in blood pressure, which can be fatal. Adult men using nitrates for heart problems are at the highest risk.
Two products recalled
Two products have been recalled: Gold Lion Chocolate Male Enhancement Sachet and Ilum Sex Chocolate Male Enhancement Booster, mainly sold to enhance male sexual performance.
Gear Isle claims to have received no reports of adverse effects. The company has directly contacted customers to arrange returns and refunds, urging all consumers to immediately stop using the products.
Distributed nationally through a specialized website for adult products, these chocolates are not directly manufactured by the company, according to its website.
Undeclared ingredients
The FDA warns that some dietary supplements, often marketed for sexual performance, weight loss, or pain relief, may contain hidden drugs. “The FDA is unable to test and identify all products marketed as dietary supplements containing potentially harmful hidden ingredients.”
In France, these products sold to boost sexual performance are prohibited over the counter and are only available as prescription medications, like Viagra.
