At the age of 44, Christina Marie Plante was found alive and well by the cold case unit of the Gila County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona.

Adam Shepherd announced on Wednesday, April 1st in a statement shared on Facebook that Christina Marie Plante, a woman who disappeared in 1994 under mysterious circumstances, was found alive and well. “Christina was reported missing after disappearing without a trace from her community,” he began.
“At the time of her disappearance, extensive searches were carried out, involving local law enforcement, volunteers, and regional reinforcements. Despite thorough searches in the field, interviews, and investigative follow-ups, no viable leads were found,” the sheriff continued. According to NBC, the young girl, then 13 years old, was last seen on May 15, 1994 in Star Valley, a town located in the mountains 150 km northeast of Phoenix.

At the time, she was wearing shorts, a t-shirt, and tennis shoes, and was walking on foot to a stable where her horse was located. “Christina was entered into national databases for abducted children and missing persons, and search posters were distributed locally, in the state, and in other regions of the country,” said J. Adam Shepherd. For 32 years, investigators worked tirelessly to review the case elements and pursue new leads.
A case unlocked by a specialized team
The case was eventually assigned to a specialized unit in unsolved cases, created a few years ago within the Gila County Sheriff’s Office: “Thanks to technological advances, modern investigative techniques, and a thorough examination of the case, detectives developed new leads that eventually led to a breakthrough,” said the police officer.
Investigators confirmed the woman’s identity, and her status as a missing person has been officially lifted. Now, the focus is on shedding light on her past and the reasons for her disappearance. The sheriff did not wish to reveal these details “at the moment,” “out of respect for Christina’s privacy and well-being.” She is now 44 years old.
