Noelia Castillo’s request for assisted dying in 2024 was initially blocked by her father, leading to a legal battle in Spain that eventually reached the European Court of Human Rights. The court also rejected the father’s appeal, citing concerns about Noelia’s mental capacity and unbearable physical or psychological suffering.

On Wednesday, US Deputy Secretary of State Riley Barnes called for an investigation into the tragic case, emphasizing the sanctity of every life. Spanish Health Minister Monica Garcia dismissed misinformation on social media, asserting Spain’s sovereignty and robust healthcare system.

Following reports of US involvement, Garcia addressed President Trump on Twitter, urging him to refrain from interfering in international affairs. An inquiry revealed a surge in misinformation about euthanasia on social networks, falsely questioning Noelia’s eligibility and accusing the Spanish government of neglect or linking the procedure to organ donation.
