The President of the United States stated on Tuesday that it was up to countries like France to deal with the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, through which approximately 20% of the world’s oil production passes.

The Strait of Hormuz is no longer Donald Trump’s problem. This Tuesday, March 31, the American president surprised once again by asserting that the United States will soon be leaving Iran, in “two to three weeks”, and also by stating that the Strait of Hormuz, where maritime traffic is blocked by the Islamic Republic, was not really their problem anymore.

“If France or another country wants to have their oil or gas, they will go straight through the Strait of Hormuz (…) and they will figure it out for themselves,” declared the Oval Office occupant from the White House. “We have nothing to do with it. What happens in the strait is not our concern.”

“I think it will be a very safe place in reality, but we have nothing to do with that,” he emphasized.

Later in the day, in a post on Truth Social, Donald Trump declared that the United States “will no longer be there to help” countries whose oil supply depends on the Strait of Hormuz.

“Go get your own oil!”

“I have a suggestion for all these countries that are running out of jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran: 1. buy from the United States, we have plenty, 2. find the courage, belatedly, go to the strait and SIMPLY TAKE it,” he wrote.

“You will have to learn to defend yourselves, the United States will no longer be there for you, just as you were not there for us. Iran has been mostly decimated. The hardest part is over. Go get your own oil!” concluded the American president.

Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that the United States, the world’s leading power, which produces much of the oil it consumes and imports the rest mostly from Canada and Mexico, is not affected by Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz. This is not the case for many Asian countries now facing a major energy crisis.
