On Tuesday, April 7 at 8:00 PM, at the Pierre-Satgé room, the League of Human Rights of Colomiers West Toulouse is holding a conference on the theme: “One year of Trump’s presidency, are the United States still a democracy?”
“Donald Trump was inaugurated as President of the United States in January 2025,” remind the organizers of this conference. Since his second term in office at the White House, he has been working to deeply undermine the country’s democratic system, with the help of the Republican Party, Christian shareholders, and his supporters among the world’s richest people. The attacks are multiple and fierce: control over civil society, violated voting rights, birthright citizenship questioned, law enforcement deployed in mass in cities, uncontrolled oligarchs, multiplied imperial wars, and more. One year after Trump took power, and six months before the midterm elections, it is time to assess the drift of this country towards an authoritarian regime.
Michael Stambolis-Ruhstorfer, a conference master in American civilization at the Department of Anglophone Studies at the University of Toulouse-Jean Jaurès, sociologist, back from a research trip to the United States, will provide his insights.
Venue: Pierre-Satgé room, 8-10, Avenue Yves-Brunaud (Complexe Capitany). Contact: colomiers@ldh-france.org.
