“An agreement could be reached soon,” declared the American president in an interview with the Financial Times.
According to the article, “Trump emphasized that indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran through Pakistani ’emissaries’ were progressing.”
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran. Major Iranian cities, including Tehran, were targeted. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, elite units of the Iranian armed forces) announced a massive retaliatory operation, attacking Israel. American installations in Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia were also struck.
On March 11, the spokesperson for Khatam al-Anbiya, the central headquarters of the Iranian armed forces, stated that Iran would not allow the passage through the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20% of global oil exports transit, of any oil cargo affiliated with the United States and its allies. On March 15, it was assured that Tehran would use all means, including controlling ship movements in the Strait of Hormuz, to force the opponent to surrender.
