The USS Abraham Lincoln has become a potential target for Iran, which threatens to strike the American aircraft carrier if it approaches the firing range. Based in San Diego, the USS Abraham Lincoln is one of the world’s largest warships, measuring over 300 meters in length. It operates as part of a carrier strike group capable of intervening at sea, in the air, and against land targets.
Since the start of American strikes in Iran, the ship is mobilized alongside Israeli forces. Positioned in the Arabian Sea, it serves as a platform for fighter jets and acts as a coordination center for several military vessels. In this setup, the aircraft carrier ensures sustained military presence without a land base, while offering rapid strike capability.
Its presence in a tense area is a significant strategic signal. It allows the US to project power from a distance while deterring adversaries. The carrier strike group can conduct continuous operations, with aircraft capable of intervening in heavily defended spaces, making it a central lever in escalation phases.

The Iranian Navy chief, Shahram Irani, warned that the carrier would be attacked “as soon as the carrier strike group of the USS Abraham Lincoln is within range,” citing sea-to-sea missiles to “avenge the blood of martyrs” after the destruction of an Iranian ship in early March.
