Venezuela to Open Diplomatic Mission in the United States

A delegation is currently in Washington to establish Venezuela’s diplomatic mission in the United States, announced the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, March 27.

The delegation includes Oliver Blanco, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs for Europe and North America, and Felix Plasencia, who has been appointed Charge d’Affaires of the Venezuelan Embassy in the United States.

In a video shared on social media, Mr. Blanco stated that the delegation had meetings with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau and other high-ranking officials as part of their work program.

Mr. Plasencia emphasized that the objective of this visit is to address issues concerning Venezuelan citizens.

Interim Venezuelan President, Delcy Rodriguez, had mentioned earlier in the week that the delegation was ready to resume diplomatic activities in the United States following an agreement reached on March 5 between Caracas and Washington to restore diplomatic relations after years of rupture.

On January 3, the U.S. military carried out a large-scale operation in Venezuela, capturing President Nicolas Maduro and his wife before transferring them to the United States.

On January 31, an American diplomatic mission arrived in Caracas, marking the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Xinhua/VNA/CVN
