Patrick Lehingue: The RN voter does not vote for Ciotti and Briois for the same reasons

FIGAROVOX/ENTRETIEN – Despite its failures in the major cities in the municipal elections, the RN saw an increase in the number of mayors in the last elections. From north to south of France, the reasons for its success differ, explains the political scientist.

LE FIGARO. – After these municipal elections, the National Rally went from 22 mayors to 74. Has it broken the “glass ceiling” that was its own in terms of local anchoring?

Patrick LEHINGUE. – It is difficult to see only positive aspects in the performances of the various political parties, as the situation varies depending on each city, and there are many available indicators. The National Rally is no exception, with a contrasting record. There is obviously progress but it is lower than that recorded in the last presidential or European elections. This contrast can also be explained by the territorial coverage, since in the first hundred municipalities in the country, the RN did not present a list in eighteen of them.
