On the eve of the municipal elections, a look at the teams in Boulogne.

Out of the 23 municipalities in the former canton of Boulogne-sur-Gesse, only three will see two lists competing: Blajan, Mondilhan, and Montmaurin.

In several municipalities, changes are nevertheless noted. In Blajan and Montmaurin, the outgoing mayors have chosen not to run for reelection, just like in Montgaillard-sur-Save and Sarrecave.

The territory had already seen significant renewal during the 2014 and 2020 elections. This year, many outgoing mayors are running for a second or third term. Nearly 80% of them are expected to continue serving within the intermunicipal community, ensuring a certain continuity in intercommunal governance.

Voting system

For voters, one of the main changes concerns the voting system in municipalities with fewer than 1,000 inhabitants. The list voting system has now replaced the plurinominal system. Until 2014, it was still possible to run for candidacy on the morning of the vote. Now, all candidacies must be submitted to the prefecture within the legal deadlines.

For the upcoming 2026 election, the rules have evolved again. Under the list voting system, any erasure or modification of a ballot now renders it void. However, there is no prohibition on this as stated in some professions of faith.

In the three municipalities where two lists are competing, the proportional system will still allow the opposition to be represented within the municipal council.
