During the 2024 legislative elections, they are coming together to oppose the political and social project of the far right, before the municipal elections on March 15 and 22. On Thursday, March 12, Sophie Binet (CGT) and Marylise Léon (CFDT) were guests on Mediapart and the political show “Backseat.”
“The danger of the far right has never been more present,” they wrote in a recent joint statement, signed by other unions (Unsa, FSU, Solidaires) as well as France Terre d’Asile, Oxfam France, and LDH. “Its project no longer hides: to challenge democratic balances, weaken fundamental rights, and impose an authoritarian vision of society. Wherever it governs, the grim balance: justice under control, muzzled press, hindered unions and associations, eroded social rights, attacked women’s rights, climate emergency ignored. Municipal elections ahead represent a decisive turning point.”
In a moment of political and media shift where the far right is increasingly normalized, and one year away from the presidential election, how can we counter the far right on the ground of principles?
While their organizations propose two different visions of unionism, and sometimes oppose each other on issues (retirement, collective negotiations, etc.), what specific proposals do they make to combat the imaginary and the far-right proposals that target many workers and employees?
– An episode presented by Jean Massiet (“Backseat”), Mathieu Magnaudeix (Mediapart), Lumir Lapray, and Saphia Aït Ouarabi.
