The event is organized by La Baume Rousse, in partnership with the editions of Poutan, this Thursday, March 12, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Readers and fans of local politics will have the opportunity to exchange with the author, Michel Rivet-Paturel, about his book “The Time of Breaks – Political Life in Lyon (1989-2025)” which traces over three decades of political transformations in Lyon.

In this work, Michel Rivet-Paturel looks back on a period that has deeply shaken the reputation of moderation often associated with Lyon’s political life. Since 1989, changes have occurred: the conquest of the City Hall by Michel Noir’s modern right, the arrival of the socialist left with Gérard Collomb, and then the victory of the ecologists led by Grégory Doucet in the City and Bruno Bernard in the Metropolis.

The term of Raymond Barre or the Macronist transformation of Gérard Collomb appear as forms of return to a centrist tradition long rooted in the capital of the Gauls.

The author, a former journalist at Le Progrès, also revisits significant episodes: from the Noir affair to the political schism caused by the Millon affair, which contributed to reshaping the balance of power between the Rhône and Saône rivers.

In the background, the book also analyzes institutional changes, including the emergence of the Metropolis of Lyon with expanded powers, as well as the contrasting evolutions between the city center, anchored to the left for nearly a quarter of a century, and an agglomeration where several historical left-wing strongholds, including communist ones, have gradually collapsed.
