Murdered in silence and invisible since the second round of municipal elections, Jean-Pierre Giran spoke out on the morning of Friday, April 10.
In a succinct statement that reached our editorial office, the mayor of Hyères confirmed his intention to withdraw from local politics:
“After the installation of the metropolitan council, I informed the Mayor of Hyères of my decision to resign from the municipal council, which also entails resigning from the metropolis.
This will allow younger elected officials to experience this exciting mission that is that of a politician. I am thus putting an end to all political activity. I do this without bitterness and proud of the work accomplished in Hyères for over 25 years in my roles as a deputy and as mayor.”
“Good luck to Hyères and its residents”
In the continuation of his statement, Jean-Pierre Giran wants to thank “all those, elected officials, local officials, citizens who have trusted and helped me in my task.”
He announces that he will no longer interfere in any way in the municipal functioning, “happy to pass on to [his] successors a city with a perfectly healthy financial situation and many projects that are on the verge of final realization.”
To conclude, he wishes “good luck to Hyères and its residents, because only their future matters.”
