After two “presidential” terms within the Armagnac Adour community of municipalities, Michel Petit is passing the baton. Let’s look back at three community terms, including two as president.

Michel Petit: Overall, I have a rather positive assessment and I have seen the evolution of this territory, a place where municipalities have transferred us a lot of responsibilities. Throughout these two terms, my objectives have always been to live well and better in this area. Living better involves acting on successful aging, and the main axes of the social project have been achieved; living well consists of developing everything related to “community” – road and IT infrastructure, not to mention the numerous renovations in the child-youth sector. I thank each member of the board for their good collaboration and a special thank you to Christophe, the 1st vice president, and Christian in charge of finances.

What action or achievement holds the most significance for you?

It is successfully carrying out a real social policy: a territory that has taken into account people, from young children to the elderly, including a new nursing home, a social assistance center, and a social hub; I have always kept an eye on all these populations facing social difficulties.

And the most challenging achievement to implement?

Undoubtedly, it is the road network, as it is always very frustrating for our fellow mayors; there is never enough, but the prices have increased so much that we can no longer close the gap.

Any regrets about actions that you have not been able to carry out or complete?

If there are two areas of responsibility that I would have liked to work on in another term, it is the management of sports facilities, especially swimming pools, and cultural provision with libraries: these are my major regrets for services that are intended to serve beyond the municipality throughout the territory.

And now, after three terms as mayor of Saint-Mont and two terms as president of the CCAA?

After my 25 years of municipal life, including three terms as mayor of Saint-Mont, and my 18 years of community life, including two as president, I have always been active in associations. Committed to social issues, I am also treasurer of the Galerie Bleue Plaimont and an Erasmus expert-evaluator. I am also a grandfather of two grandchildren living in New Caledonia, where I spend two months a year.
