Jean-Luc Mélenchon is in Perpignan for a meeting this Sunday, March 1, following Jordan Bardella’s rally. Bardella didn’t hold back his words about his future opponent in the 2027 presidential election.

It’s been a political showdown over the weekend. The rebellious leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon is holding a meeting this Sunday afternoon in Perpignan, in the Pyrénées-Orientales. The day before, it was the president of the National Rally, Jordan Bardella, in the largest city in France governed by the Le Pen party.

Both officially came to support their candidates in the municipal elections, just two weeks before the elections. But in reality, it’s a duel being played out. One possible scenario for the second round of the 2027 presidential election.

“Vous en êtes la honte !”

In front of his troops on Saturday, February 28, the head of the National Rally targeted and attacked Jean-Luc Mélenchon. He also called on other left-wing parties to break ties with LFI. In a power cut that left Jordan Bardella in the dark: “we will continue by candlelight.”

Coming to launch his arrows against Jean-Luc Mélenchon, two weeks after the death of Quentin Deranque on February 14. “This tragedy is the result of a climate of violence methodically built and installed in the country by Mr. Mélenchon and his friends,” he said on stage, facing 3,000 people.

“Entretien du climat de tension”

Jordan Bardella wants to show responsibility and contrast with the left, urging them to break ties with LFI. Jean-Luc Mélenchon is seen as the devil by these far-right supporters. “No matter what he says, he doesn’t love France,” one attendee at the meeting affirmed.

In the room, there is also Ewen, neither left nor right. He will also attend Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s meeting this Sunday afternoon. He is disillusioned by this extreme showdown: “There is a kind of spectacle behind it that saddens me a bit.”

“No stopping the match,” says LFI. The meeting on Sunday, March 1 will be an “anti-fascist response.” In Perpignan, Louis Aliot is a strong favorite, but he could be required to resign a few months later if the justice system deems him ineligible in the case of RN parliamentary assistants.
