Friday is Opening Day at Sahlen Field as the Buffalo Bisons start their season with a 1:05 p.m. first pitch against the Scranton Wilkes/Barre RailRiders.

There’s a 50-degree guarantee at the ballpark. If it’s not at least 50 degrees at first pitch, everyone in attendance gets a free ticket to a future Bisons game.

As a new season begins in Buffalo, players are excited to be playing one step away from the major leagues.

“I’m ready for the season to start,” said Grant Rogers, the Bisons’ opening day starting pitcher.

Last year, the Bisons’ major league affiliate, the Toronto Blue Jays, came up just short of a World Series win, falling to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a seven-game Fall Classic thriller.

This Bisons squad has been talking to friends and former teammates that are now up north with the Jays to get all the motivation they can to make a championship run of their own.

“Now they can believe that, ‘hey, if I go and do what I need to do and I’m successful and I get my work done and I get better, there is an opportunity for me in this organization to go to the major league and help.’ It’s a team that is trying to win World Series championships,” manager Casey Candaele said.
