According to The Washington Post, General Caine expressed concerns about a lack of ammunition and allied support in the event of a conflict with Iran.

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is not “opposed” to a “war with Iran,” as reassured by Donald Trump on Monday, February 23, despite reports that General Caine had warned the president against a major military intervention in Iran.

“Several fake news stories have circulated, saying that General Caine (…) would be opposed to us going to war with Iran,” which is “100% incorrect,” wrote the American president on his Truth Social network. “General (Dan) Caine, like all of us, would prefer not to see a war, but if a decision was made to militarily intervene in Iran, he believes it would be something that would be easy to win,” Donald Trump assured.

In June, Iran was already struck by targeted strikes ordered by Donald Trump, who does not rule out using the military option again against the Islamic Republic, with which the United States are also discussing its nuclear program.

General Caine expressed concerns to the White House and the Department of Defense that a lack of ammunition and allied support exposes American military personnel to greater danger. The Wall Street Journal reported that Caine and other Pentagon officials had warned of risks such as potential American and allied casualties and the weakening of American air defense capabilities.

In his message, the American president stated that he would prefer to reach an agreement with Iran, but if not, “it would go very badly for that country and, unfortunately, for its people, who are great and wonderful.”
