Students of Sarrey School Experience a Day of Cultural Exploration
Students at Sarrey School experienced an exceptional day on Thursday, March 19. Between theatrical emotions and hands in the dirt, the children explored culture in all its forms: the one that cultivates the mind and the one that brings life to sprout.
The morning started with an imaginary touch at the Humbert theater, as part of the Tinta’mars festival. Students attended a performance of “The story of the girl who didn’t want to be a dog,” a sensitive work by the Foule Théâtre company. The touching story follows a little girl seeing through her dad’s eyes.
In the audience, reactions were lively: while young Lizon admitted that “it was a bit sad,” enthusiasm quickly took over among her classmates, describing the show as “splendid” and “too cool.” A successful cultural immersion that was able to shake the sensitivity of the youngest.
In the afternoon, a change of scenery but not of theme. The “culture” became vegetable in the school’s courtyard. Accompanied by the host Samuel Stolarz, apprentice gardeners tackled weeding and replanting in the wild garden and planters.
The spring renewal is already visible with embellished daffodils and seedlings of columbines, asters, or mint. In the vegetable garden, the rhubarb is peeking out while the strawberries are getting ready for the season. To conclude this educational session under a bright sun, Samuel Stolarz captivated his audience with the tale of “The frog with the big mouth.” A playful way to address the complexity of the food chain, illustrated by an interactive frieze laid on the ground to understand concretely “who eats whom.”
An appeal to the green thumbs of the village
The school does not intend to stop there and wants to open its garden to the community. Residents of Sarrey and parents are invited to come garden with the students during the upcoming sessions: on Friday, April 10 and May 29.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring perennials, seedlings, or cuttings to diversify the biodiversity of this little corner of the school nature.
