A great challenge is looming for teenagers. Disconnecting from social networks! TikTok, Snapchat, and Instagram are now considered the enemies of young people, and they may have to do without them… On March 31, the Senate will publicly examine the bill proposed by deputy Laure Miller since November 2025. The text aims to ban access to social networks for minors under the age of 15.

National legislation to limit digital exposure

Already adopted in a first reading by the National Assembly in late January, this law could, if passed, transform the next school year into a true “digital detox”. Starting in September 2026, all accounts of minors under 15 would be deleted, and high schools should specify the places and conditions for the use of mobile phones in their internal regulations.

It is true that screens and social networks often play an excessive role in the daily lives of young people. That’s why the head educator of the Champeix college, near Clermont-Ferrand, decided to act. To raise awareness among students about online dangers, he launched a challenge for sixth graders called “Zero Networks”. This initiative aims to limit their screen time and exposure to social networks.

    An experimental initiative in Puy-de-Dôme

“Camille: “The results are encouraging. The challenge lasted six months. While nearly half of the 114 6th graders had an account in December, there were fewer than ten in June! The students even found that the school atmosphere had improved. Regaining control is possible!”

And if other communities want to follow the example of the Champeix college, they can participate in the 2026 edition of the challenge organized by the association “10 days without screens”. They will thus accompany the young people they welcome towards screen-free leisure activities. This year, the challenge will take place from May 19 to 28. The principle is simple: for 10 days, children and adolescents commit to giving up screens, with the support of their families, teachers, and community. The young participants keep a journal and take part in alternative activities.

The association offers online resources and solidarity kits containing journals, badges, posters, and guides for parents. Registered establishments are supported in their initiative. To date, there are 702 registered structures, ranging from daycare centers to high schools, totaling over 107,000 children and adolescents.
