Contemporary drawing is in the spotlight throughout France with the Spring of Drawing in museums, art centers, and historical monuments. From March to June, there are over one hundred and fifty events scheduled, including meetings with artists, exhibitions, performances, conferences, workshops, drawing walks, and even drawing concerts. Two drawing salons entirely devoted to drawing are opening in Paris: the Salon du Dessin at the Palais Brongniart, and Drawing Now at the Carreau du Temple. Drawing Now Paris is the first European fair exclusively dedicated to drawing. For this 19th edition of the contemporary drawing salon, both contemporary artists and historical figures will be featured, including Claire Bretécher, François Morelli, Vicky Fischer, and Florent Chavouet. According to Joana Neves, the artistic director of Drawing Now Paris, drawing is a space that unfolds and reinvents itself, serving as a reference for contemporary creation.

“The Autonomy of drawing is fully accepted these days. There are international institutions solely dedicated to drawing, such as the ‘Drawing Room’ in London and the ‘Drawing Center’ in New York. Drawing has truly taken over creativity, especially during the peak of avant-garde movements, with innovative artists of the 20th century, like Marcel Duchamp, who thought deeply about photography and the use of lines. In the 60s and 70s, the inclusion of the body and performance in drawing was significant. Many artists believe that drawing is a real performance and a mark that measures time, recording the passage from point A to point B.”

Drawing Now Paris will take place at the Carreau du Temple in Paris from March 26 to 29.
