A 47-year-old man, seriously injured by a gunshot during a robbery at his home on Tuesday morning in Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, did not survive his injuries. Rushed to the hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit, he was pronounced dead in the mid-afternoon.
The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. in the Tchekepati neighborhood. According to initial reports, two masked individuals broke into the victim’s home to steal his jewelry, including gold chains that he regularly wore.
During the attack, a gunshot was fired, hitting the man in the thigh. Upon the arrival of emergency services, he was in cardiac arrest with massive bleeding. Resuscitation efforts were initiated on the spot, leading to a return of pulse before his transfer to the hospital.
Known by the name Michael, this discreet man who worked in construction and had been living in the neighborhood for almost 20 years. The neighborhood is deeply saddened by the news.
An investigation has been opened by the gendarme research brigade. Initially classified as attempted murder and armed robbery, the facts could be reclassified after the victim’s death.
The suspects are still at large.
