Seville FC parts ways with coach Matias Almeyda

The Argentine is no longer the coach of Seville FC, ranked 15th in the Spanish league. The former midfielder of Inter Milan and River Plate has been in charge of the team since last June and has managed it for 32 games (29 matches in Liga and three in the Copa del Rey).

The Andalusian club, which is three points away from the relegation zone, has issued a brief statement thanking Matias Almeyda.

“On the eve of my 39th birthday, I officially announce that I am retiring as a professional footballer. My dream was to become a professional, and I succeeded in doing so for twenty years at a high level. I managed to play for the national team (38 caps). It’s the end of a great journey.”

“The desire to play is still there but at 39 years old the body is different. The demands of football are very complicated. I did not want to be part of a project where I could not be 100% myself. I prefer to hang up my boots and my weapon. Emotionally, it was impossible for me to play against OM,” added the Reunionese, who did not have the opportunity to win a title in his career.
