In the cinema “Le Marylin” in Besse-sur-Issole, the volunteers have created a unique space. Xavier Noé, the president of the association managing the cinema for 10 years, is passionate about maintaining the art of cinema in the community.

Situated in the heart of the village on Place Noël-Blache, the cinema with its colorful façade and Greek temple-like columns stands out. Inside, on a Wednesday afternoon, children like Marco, Enzo, and Naomie, come to watch movies like “Super Charlie” in the welcoming atmosphere of the cinema.

The cinema has a rich history dating back to 1935, with significant improvements made by René Ciccaglione in the 1990s. Over the years, the cinema has undergone renovations and upgrades, with a particular focus on sound quality.

Despite economic challenges, “Le Marylin” maintains a loyal audience, primarily composed of seniors and young children. The cinema plays a crucial role in maintaining social connections within the community.

With a strong emphasis on cultural offerings and community engagement, the cinema continues to provide a space for social and cultural interactions, essential for the rural area.

In 2025, despite a decrease in ticket sales, smaller cinemas like “Le Marylin” have fared better than larger ones. The cinema’s collaboration with local businesses, including special evenings combining meals and movie tickets, helps sustain its operations effectively.

As part of the Spring Cinema Event, tickets at “Le Liberté” in Brignoles will be priced at 5 euros until March 24th. The film “Ceux qui comptent” will be shown in advance for this occasion.
