WALKER, Mich. — A Grand Rapids man is in custody for breaking into a home in Walker on Saturday evening.Â
The Walker Police Department (WPD) said officers and a Kent County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a home in the 1100 block of Maynard Avenue SW for a report of a home invasion underway.Â
The Walker resident told police she had arrived home and found that her house had been broken into. She then realized someone was still in the home, so she ran and contacted police.Â
As she ran from the home, she said she saw a man run out of it as well.Â
Police arrived at the scene within minutes and deployed a drone. The Kent County Sheriff’s Office also deployed a K9 Unit.Â
A suspect who matched the woman’s description was tracked down and taken into custody on the property of a nearby business.Â
Police said the suspect, identified as a 42-year-old Grand Rapids man, was taken to the hospital for treatment and then lodged at the Kent County Jail.Â
WPD said the suspect has been charged with first-degree home invasion.Â
“The Kent County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit and the Walker Police Drone Unit were paramount in the success of this capture,” WPD said. “The utilization of these tools and the interagency teamwork enabled the officers on scene to quickly resolve the situation, ensuring the safety of other Walker residents.”
Anyone with more information on this incident is asked to contact WPD at (616) 791-6788 or Silent Observer at (616) 774-2345.
