EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Record breaking temperatures are expected this weekend before a cold front moves in on Sunday night. There is a possibility of isolated storms Sunday night, with some potentially becoming severe with wind and hail as the main risks. Temperatures will return to average levels at the start of the work week.

Sunday will likely see record breaking heat, with highs reaching the mid 80s. The previous record was set at 80 back in 1988. Clouds will increase Sunday evening ahead of the cold front, with a chance of isolated storms carrying a marginal to slight risk of severity, mainly focused on hail and damaging wind gusts. The time frame for potential storms is from 8PM to 12AM. Factors that may limit severe weather include a strong capping inversion that could prevent storm formation altogether. However, recent models suggest that the cap may weaken enough for storms to develop. Overall, widespread severe weather is not anticipated.

Temperatures will cool down at the start of the work week, with highs on Monday and Tuesday only reaching the mid to upper 50s. By the middle of next week, temperatures will gradually increase through the 60s and 70s. The next chance for showers is expected on Wednesday and Thursday.
