On May 23, 2026 at 3:22 pm, 700 military personnel will be participating in a large-scale training exercise spread across several departments in north-west France including Manche, Calvados, Mayenne, Sarthe, Ille-et-Vilaine, and Orne from June 2 to June 4, 2026. The operation aims to prepare for potential intervention in inhabited areas.
“This allows us to understand the terrain, be aware of the environment in case of engagement,” said the army.
The ongoing exercise, conducted outside a military camp, is intended to validate operational readiness integrating various components including infantry, artillery, and a scenario of high intensity engagement. It involves around 700 soldiers from different army formations along with around 60 ground vehicles and 30 attack or transport helicopters.
This simulation, set in a highly tense international context, emphasizes the importance of training under realistic conditions. The presence of the military in the heart of territories aims to reinforce connections with the population.
Residents of Orne can expect increased helicopter activity during this training exercise. Combat phases are also possible with measures taken to minimize disturbances like noise and pollution.
“We are monitoring the situation and staying in touch with authorities in case of any issues,” mentioned the communication teams.
