The conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan has been ongoing for months. However, on Wednesday, they announced a truce during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, following a Pakistani airstrike on a Kabul drug rehabilitation center that resulted in hundreds of casualties.

The ceasefire will begin on Thursday and last until next Monday at midnight, as stated by the Pakistani Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar. The two countries, at the request of Muslim-friendly nations such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey, announced the ceasefire on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.

Both Afghanistan and Pakistan have assured that they are prepared to respond firmly in case of further aggression. The recent airstrike on Kabul by Pakistani planes resulted in significant loss of life, with 408 deaths and 265 injuries reported by Taliban authorities.

UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, condemned the attack as a violation of international law, emphasizing the protection of medical facilities. The Pakistani government denied intentionally targeting the medical facility, claiming they were aiming at military and terrorist targets.

Over 50 victims were laid to rest in a mass burial in Kabul on Wednesday. Afghan authorities expressed grief and promised accountability for the lives lost. The situation highlighted the need for peaceful resolution, with some key figures open to mediation to resolve the conflict diplomatically.

The process of identifying the deceased is ongoing, with some bodies severely impacted by the violence of the airstrike. Various organizations involved in relief efforts have reported hundreds of casualties, confirming the devastating impact of the attack. The hospital that was targeted catered to thousands of drug addiction patients across Afghanistan, with parts of the facility left in ruins after the bombing.
