The Spurs easily defeated the Phoenix Suns (121-94) last night, who were without Dillon Brooks due to suspension and lost their star player Devin Booker in the first half.

It was an effortless win for the Spurs and especially for Victor Wembanyama, who scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in just 25 minutes. He made an impressive dunk and blocked 5 shots, including two consecutive blocks in the first quarter that set the tone for the game.

“I was impressed by his anticipation on the blocks,” said Spurs coach Mitch Johnson. “When he is focused like that, he is spectacular. Such an attitude sets the stage for everyone.”

Stephon Castle also praised Wembanyama, saying, “Victor doesn’t care what game it is, he always gives his all. He is extremely competitive. His shot-blocking ability is all about timing. He is fluid, tall, and reads his opponents’ movements. It’s super impressive to see him do that.”

The Spurs dominated in fast-break points (27-7) and points in the paint (48-36), making it difficult for Phoenix to compete. Phoenix struggled with poor shooting percentages (37% overall, 28% from three-point range).

The San Antonio team for the 2025-2026 season leaves little room for their opponents. “We know each other much better now,” Johnson said. “We play a much more serious and strong basketball,” added Castle.

After the game, Wembanyama led the tradition of drumming and clapping, a ritual after every home game this season. The game took place in Austin, 1.5 hours away from San Antonio, to expand the fan base. The Spurs felt right at home there. They will host Sacramento on Saturday (2 a.m. Sunday in France) in their next game.
