In Germany, the Chancellor has advised against war in Iran. In front of the Parliament on Wednesday, March 18, Friedrich Merz reaffirmed his opposition to any participation in the conflict in Iran. “Washington did not consult us and did not consider European assistance necessary. Ladies and gentlemen, we would have advised against this course of action” , he declared. According to the Chancellor, a precise plan is needed to act, always within the framework of a united European defense. This is what he will argue at the summit in Brussels (Belgium) on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Russia condemns the strikes on a nuclear power plant, the only one operational in Iran, which was targeted by a missile. There were no deaths or major damage, but Russian nationals were working there. “This missile attack hit the inside of the nuclear power plant, just a few meters from a unit in service. This is irresponsible and totally unacceptable” , denounced Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency has called for restraint to avoid any nuclear catastrophe.
