The child protection teams in the Gironde department have agreed to speak with Xavier Naud and Thomas Dutter for LSD, the documentary series on France Culture.

France Culture explores the little-known functioning of child protection in France in four episodes with LSD, the documentary series, which assists nearly 400,000 children each year.

The documentary follows the journey of children, from the report of a concerning situation to the possible intervention of Child Welfare Services (ASE). It highlights the evaluation of danger, a delicate stage where social workers must determine the risks to the child’s development, sometimes even involving the justice system. Judges, educators, and foster families then step in to support or protect minors, while trying to help parents as much as possible.

In the first two episodes, you will discover the Gironde Departmental Cell for the Collection of Preoccupying Information (CRIP) with Pascal Thomas, deputy manager, and Sébastien, a specialized educator. You will also learn about the Departmental House of Solidarity in Eysines, where Laurence and Magalie, social workers, assess preoccupying information daily. Lastly, you will meet Élise Remaut, territorial manager of Child Welfare Services at the Departmental House of Solidarity in Graves.

You will also hear poignant testimonies from families and former placement children.

The series questions the limits, dysfunctions, but also the hopes brought by this system, between doubts, rebuilding, and human connection.
