The Israeli army intensified its strikes in Lebanon on Wednesday, May 13, including four that targeted cars south of Beirut, resulting in 22 deaths, including several children, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health. These strikes, hitting more than 30 distinct locations according to the national news agency (ANI), come as Lebanon and Israel are set to begin a new round of talks in Washington on Thursday under the auspices of the United States, despite opposition from the pro-Iranian Hezbollah movement.
Eight people, including two children, were killed in strikes that targeted three cars about 20 kilometers south of Beirut, according to the Ministry of Health. A fourth strike hit a car at the entrance of Saïda, south of Beirut, ANI reported. One person was killed and another injured, according to the Ministry of Health. In the same area, Israeli strikes in the Tyre region hit three cars, resulting in three deaths, while three children and two women were killed in the town of Arab Salim, another child in Harouf, and three others, including two children, in Roumin.
Furthermore, more than 10,000 homes have been destroyed or damaged in Lebanon, estimated by the National Council for Scientific Research on Wednesday. “Since the ceasefire (…) we have observed that 5,386 homes were completely destroyed and 5,246 damaged,” said the director of this Lebanese public institution, Chadi Abdallah, during a press conference. Despite a ceasefire in effect since April 17 at midnight, Israel continues its massive strikes, while Hezbollah continues to claim attacks on Israeli targets.
