Language exchange program between Oloron Sainte-Marie and Jacetania

Linguistic exchanges to help young people progress in Spanish and discover a culture

The city of Oloron Sainte-Marie and the Comarca de la Jacetania in Jaca are offering young people between 2009 and 2014 the opportunity to participate in language exchanges.

    One family’s story

At 11 years old, last summer, Adrien spent a week in Villanua, and in exchange, he hosted his correspondent for a week at his home. His mother Beckie recounts that the exchange went very well from start to finish.

“The meeting to bring families closer together went very well, in the form of small games to get to know each other. We then exchanged our availability schedules and contacts. The week went well, both here and there, as the young Spaniard was also very happy. We met a lovely family, exchanged gifts, it was friendly. Since then, we have stayed in touch, for example by exchanging wishes at the beginning of the year. Adrien has kept a photo of his correspondent in his room. This summer, we cannot participate, but we will do it again in 2 or 3 years. In the meantime, I recommend this program and have spoken a lot about it around me!”

    The principle is simple:

    1. Youth and their families introduce themselves to their respective town hall by returning the form before the deadline of May 8.
    2. Agents from cross-border communities group suitable pairs together.
    3. A meeting in Jaca (at the headquarters of the Comarca) on Saturday, June 13 at 11 am will allow participants to meet and define the modalities of the exchange, which will take place during the summer.
    4. Time for exchanges: the Spanish young person will be welcomed for a week in Oloron or the surrounding area, while the French young person will be welcomed for a week in Jaca or the surrounding area.
