At the attention of the Minister of National Education, Minister of National Education,
We, the signatories of this petition, consider that the artistic teachings (visual arts and music), currently offered as an option in middle school, do not allow all students to benefit from a complete and equitable cultural education.
We therefore demand:
The replacement of the “visual arts” and “music” options with a mandatory course in general culture in middle school, including a multidisciplinary approach (arts, philosophy, art history, literature, etc.).
The integration of arts into this course in the form of modules, or their proposal in extracurricular activities for students wishing to delve deeper.
A broad consultation of educational stakeholders (teachers, parents, students) to design this course collaboratively.
All students must have access to a quality general culture. This course would develop transversal skills (analysis, creativity, critical thinking). General culture is essential to understand current social, environmental, and technological challenges.
Sign and share this petition to make general culture a priority in the education of our children.
