Artistes, creators, but also whistleblowers, the collective “La Résistance Artistique du HuitQuatorzeDoubleZéro”, recently displayed “Artistic election campaign posters” on the storefront of the former toy store located at 45 av Jean Jaurès in Carmaux: “Being an artist here is really not easy. We are a collective that is not a collective, our core is made up of around twenty local artists around whom there are no fewer than 300 members.”

The members of the collective denounce the lack of program and the lack of interest in culture: “Despite our 17 requests for appointments, the Carmaux town hall refuses any discussion, despite our 7 requests, the Blaye-les-Mines town hall ignores us, despite our 13 requests, the inter-municipal association does not respond. Only 2 communists have responded. And our letters were sent well before the elections.”

And to denounce artistic censorship: “Our artistically free administrative centers barricaded and closed, our works destroyed by the police, our texts censored by the authorities, our voice ignored by the elected officials. If this policy of closed doors continues, we have no illusions about the future of culture in the Carmaux region. Glass museum closed, former cinema turned into a dump by the 3CS, heritage destroyed to turn it into a parking lot.” The HuitQuatorzeDoubleZéro collective was born in March 2020, during the lockdown: “We consider that everyone has talent. We do a lot of things, theater, concerts, shows,” like the cinema concert theater organized last October to celebrate the 150 years of the CGT, which was a hit. “But we are nomads because we have no place.”

And to conclude: “Covered in glue, paint, and scars, we will continue to defend culture in our territory until the last battle and the defeat will taste like victory.”
